Clinical Trial – Grass and Contact Allergies Trial Number One: Maple Street Vet has invented a new medical device to treat allergies ISMD ( Immune System Modulating Device). The device has been used on individual cases for the last four months and has proven to be very useful. In the past natural remedies have not done too well under very strict scientific trial conditions. So I guess I was a little nervous of a bad outcome, but I was confident that it will do very well. It certainly is the best treatment that I have found in my years of trying to resolve allergies. Initially one has to find enough dogs with the same allergy to get a good statistical result. So for this reason I have selected to test Contact Allergies as this is something I can easily test many dogs with a simple patch test to see if they are allergic to a specific type of allergen that will be tested. The dog must react to the allergen to enter the trial. If your dog is selected to enter the trial he or she will be randomly assigned to a Placebo group or a Treatment group. The placebo group received acupuncture and a non connected medical device. The treatment group will get acupuncture and a medical device will be attached to acupuncture needle. Neither the Vet nor the Owner will know which group the dogs are in, until the end of the trial. After a week the dogs were re-exposed to the allergen via patch to see if the allergy has resolved. Results: In scientific terms the trial was a failure because unfortunately I had not foreseen how I would react to the trial as it unfolded. The issue was the first patient as depicted in the pictures below responded 100% resolving the allergy. All animals had been given a randomly assigned trial number but my error was to choose via drawing out of a hat that odd numbers received placebo and even numbers received the treatment. As the first patient responded 100% , it so happened to have an odd trail number ( 21) so I assumed it MUST of received the treatment as it responded so well, so I continued the rest of the trial with Consciousness of this bias. The results of the trial was that there was a definite recognition of two groups the responder and the non responders. The responders belonged to the same group as the first patient – the odd numbers. There were two resolutions with a bunch of about 50% responders and the very last patient did not respond. The reality is that the responders received acupuncture and had no attachment to the machine, but I had a conscious bias assuming they received the real treatment. To me this was earth shattering. My fears of a scientific trial were realised. What it reveals is that Acupuncture works through consciousness of the person applying the acupuncture . So in future a double blind placebo trial is just not possible, as I cannot remove my consciousness from my body, unless being dead is a goal. What did come out of the trial was that ALL the patients had the same energetic pattern and what I am calling a new syndrome : Axis Dysfunction. The axis dysfunction involves the Brain / Heart (or Pericardium) / Kidney. A large majority of the dogs in the trials had emotional issues with Anxiety and Fear and associated these behavioural changes occurring after a traumatic event and consequent allergy symptoms. The allergen plus the memory of the traumatic event plays an important role in the allergy
Treatment We are busy trialling a Non acupuncture method of desensitisation for those dogs that do not tolerate needles too well – the bandages appear to be well tolerated. 8 Cases 2 cases responded completely 2 cases partially responded 2 cases responded post trial to known treatment 4 cases did not respond at all 2 were assumed to be the placebo 2 were assumed to be the treatment 25.00% Resolution 50.00% Positive response 50.00% No response
Trial Number Two
This is essentially based on the same concept as above but without a placebo component. That means every patient that has a positive patch test enters the trial and receives the real treatment . The response so far is excellent – these responses are to a single treatment to a single contact allergen.
8 cases 3 cases responded completely 4 cases partially responded 0 cases with no response 37.50% Resolution 87.50% Positive response 0.00% No response
